Job Summary The Controller is responsible for managing the financial and accounting functions of the company. This includes overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting and possess excellent leadership and communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the preparation and review of monthly financial statements and reports.
Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with company goals.
Supervise the accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Conduct financial analysis and provide strategic recommendations to senior management.
Coordinate with project managers to review job cost reports and update work-in-progress schedules.
Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and insurance providers.
Mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualification Standards
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
7+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Proficiency in QuickBooks, QuickBase, or similar financial systems, with demonstrated experience in customizing and optimizing financial processes
Strong understanding of WIP schedule preparation and job costing, particularly in a construction or project-based accounting setting.
Expertise in managing month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, and compliance audits.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Experience managing payroll, including prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting, tax filings, and regulatory compliance.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, with advanced Excel skills.
